A Haunted House

An evening spent with David Hoskin is sure to be a wild ride! In his latest creation, “A Haunted House” at the Old Red Lion Theatre, Hoskin seamlessly blends #mime & physical #sketch comedy, creating an experience that is both mind-boggling & side-splitting… 👻🧟‍♂️🎃

From the very beginning, Hoskin sets the tone for a spooky yet kooky performance. He plunges us into a world where iconic characters from the #spookyszn classics come to life. Get ready to encounter the likes of #Saw, #Chuckee, #Annabelle, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, all with a humorous twist…🎭🍿🎦

Hoskin’s mime prowess deserves & demands our unwavering attention throughout (blink, and you may miss it!) Take one of the first sketches, where we witness a couple trapped in a sinister basement, evocative of the nightmarish #Saw films. Despite his best efforts to help his partner’s escape, hilariously gruesome misfortunes befall them, from crucifixion against the wall to a barrage of bullets and even decapitation— you name it…

Admittedly, the performance is a work in progress, and though some moment-to-moment physical aspects could use a bit more polish, Hoskin succeeds in crafting strong mini-adaptations of these classic #horror tales whilst holding fast to his #comedic flair. The eerie sound effects elevate the experience, providing context to help audiences get fully on board & immerse us in a world of splattering blood, door creaking & knife slicing… 🚪🔪😨

“A Haunted House" is ultimately a very promising start for a talented performer. As deft and physically skilled as Hoskin is, it’s evident that each of his acts will become more & more captivating as the work continues to evolve. A piece in development that holds immense promise. WIP👷‍♂️
