Klazo

Proudly championing #accessibility, Bold Mellon Collective brings a new iteration of their performance “KLAZO” to Theatre Deli’s Social Model & More Festival.
A genre-bending piece combining performance art, dance and discussion, “KLAZO” explores the performers’ lived experience with Tourette’s Syndrome. Step into the world of Maddie & Dan in a mesmerising blend of #movement & #imagery that celebrates inclusivity from start to finish🎭…

👀The Innovative: As you would expect, "KLAZO" is accessible to the max. From audio description & noise-cancelling headphones to BSL interpretation & a table full of fidget-friendly toys, Maddie & Dan go above & beyond to ensure that every audience member is empowered with options to tailor their experience…

🤩The intriguing: KLAZO's imagery is visceral & compelling. The set consists of a sea of suspended white plaster body parts, which the performers lift, handle delicately & rehang with the utmost care. However, the scene quickly morphs into sharp, hurried movements: Maddie & Dan hastily scribble, smear & smudge black charcoal onto both the hanging limbs & themselves. These movements serve as a wondrous illustration of the mind-body disconnect that emerges from tics & compulsions...

🔎The Undercooked: The sparse text, a recent addition to the piece, is occasionally puzzling. Questions such as ‘Am I the art? So I’m dead, right’? disrupt the powerful visual language the duo has already created🤔 Parsing the nebulous dialogue threatens to overshadow the visceral movement & visuals...

Ultimately, "KLAZO" turns traditional notions of theatre upside down. Our favourite aspect? This accessible performance shifts focus with a talkback in the second half, placing control in the hands of the audience experiencing this captivating piece. WIP👷‍♀️👷
