Moth

A #scifi drama that weaves together physics, mystery, and existential pondering, Antimatter Productions' debut production "Moth" follows six survivors in the aftermath of the #apocalypse. While the eye-catching set design hooks us from the outset with strings dangling on @thehopetheatre's walls like #cosmic threads, the script could use a hefty trim...✂️

🪐The enigmatic: Imagine Stranger Things’ cataclysmic portal sucking 77% of everything in existence into a black hole, leaving a handful of survivors behind to create underground communities. Meredith, a young man caught in a temporal loop, becomes the focal point as Dr. Nikolai, a passionate particle physicist, seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding Meredith’s survival (shout-out to @williamosbon's portrayal of the haughty scientist!)...

✨The stellar: @mttw.wils' script demonstrates research, seamlessly integrating theoretical physics into the storytelling. It's like Wilson is giving a nod to #ItaloCalvino at a scientists' party where theories tango with metaphors, turning the universe into a dazzling narrative playground. We love how the ensemble *commits* to the performance, imbuing the story with vibrant authenticity…

🛰️The space debris: All that said, the play struggles to maintain its momentum. Lengthy conversations clutter the narrative, confusing the storyline as it jumps to moments before & after the apocalypse. Also, the static staging leaves us… ‘whelmed’. Sure, the show starts with promising stage elements, but as the plot unfolds, it doesn’t sustain the visual excitement, feeling like a missed opportunity rather than a minimalistic choice…

In all, #Moth presents a cosmic tapestry rich in scientific intrigue but gets entangled in its own web of wordiness & static staging. Despite this, the committed performances & thought-provoking themes culminate in an uplifting realisation: "Nothing matters. But we matter to each other." 3/5⭐
