Lynsey Cullen’s GREEDY is a yummy morsel of a play 😋😋, and a great example of how to effectively direct a no-frills ZOOM play (digital theatre makers, check it out!) The plot is pretty simple— during a casual conversation, Lily (@staceyharcourt) reveals that she’s dating a woman. Cue clumsy congrats and awkwardly intrusive questions from her well-meaning friends, who are suddenly out of their comfort zones. @oliviabmurph, @rhiannonlj14 and @gemmahep, who round out the ensemble, have a great rapport, bringing nuanced comedy to their performances. The cast perfectly express the unsentimental realism of the script, which swings from moments of pure cringe to touching instances of acceptance and solidarity. Tbh, the climactic plot-twist (gentle spoiler!) feels a little forced; one wonders why a character with an incriminating secret would call so much attention to themselves? But maybe Cullen’s point is that people are people— flawed, surprising and, in the case of this play, mostly endearing.
