The Twittique / TL;DR
Podcast & stage collide in a dramaturgically delicious ( #TheatreNerd ) rom-com. @georgie_grier ’s bright-eyed heroine endears & the unique live-podcast form is refreshing. Yet the dark twist ending feels arbitrary, leaving the audience cheated of a ‘happily ever after’.
Dive into the world of #podcasts and #romcoms with 'Sunsets,' a one-woman show by Georgie Grier. @screensteruk’s innovative production beautifully blends the podcast format with a live stage performance, creating a yummily layered theatrical experience😋…Divided into 7 episodes, ‘Sunsets’ follows Denver’s personal love story. If you love “awww” moments, this is your jam: from the “meet-cute” episode to the introduction of other characters, Denver guides us through her romantic journey with humour & sincerity 💕… Denver's enthusiasm and optimism infuse this show with lively, comedic energy. An endearingly bright-eyed protagonist, we gamely follow her pursuit of a fairytale ending and her "jaunt off into the sunset 🌅…However, an unexpectedly dark plot twist disrupts the otherwise upbeat storyline. Our heroine’s dreamy quest for love meets a bitter-sweet end that can be hard to swallow. This surprising conclusion is a real record scratch, and it’s not entirely clear why the narrative needs it. 🤷🏾♀️…That said, with its unique format and engaging narrative, 'Sunsets' brings an intriguing depth to the rom-com genre & for that alone, is well worth a watch… Despite its unexpected ending, 'Sunsets' offers a fresh take on the rom-com and live performance formats. It's an engaging show that reminds us that the journey to love isn't always as straightforward as we hope 🌟…
